Heading out of Ouray, head south on Highway 550 towards Silverton. The Ophir Pass road begins about five miles past Red Mountain Pass. The road heads in only one direction, west, over Ophir Pass and eventually to the town of Ophir where the road intersects with Highway 145. Head north until you arrive at an intersection. The road heading east leads to Telluride.

From Telluride you can take Imogene Pass up to Highway 361 and on into Ouray. There are a couple of longer alternate routes back to Ouray through Ridgway.
