I will be taking I-80 to I-15 to I-70 Via US6 then 50 to 550 and to the KOA to hang with RB, Ernzo, Michael, PC and Whoever else makes a Rez there! This route will take me through Sacramento, Reno, Salt Lake city, Provo And Grand Junction I still plan to leave on Friday night (9 Aug) but will certainly adjust to let others go with me. I figure with all the extra time we could hit some touristy stuff and maybe even check out Moab! Please check Nevada and Michael Baxter's entry for more details. Brian and others from CA will be meeting Michael and his crew in Green River, UT or Reno, NV.

We have 11 confirmed for our convoy from N. Cal., N. Nevada and Utah and 3 tentative so far, but hopefully we'll also be able to join the Pac. NW convoy in Salt Lake City and the So. Cal. Convoy in Green River, UT. We plan to meet and depart Reno at 8 a.m. on Tue., Aug. 13, for Ouray. However several in the group, including myself, are planning to depart around noon, Mon. Aug. 12 and spend an extra night enroute in Wendover, NV. This is so we scrounge around in the desert south of Wendover early Tue. morning on a different agenda. Anyone is welcome to join-us for the Wendover diversion which will also likely include a visit to the National Automobile Museum to see the very last FSJ built and a visit to the Bonneville Speed Museum. Our route is I-80 to Salt Lake City, I-15/US Hwy 6 to Green River, UT, I-70 to Grand Junction and then US Hwy 50/550 to Ouray. We're spending Tue. night the 13th at the Sleep Inn in South Jordan, UT (I-15 at exit 297). We hope to meet-up with the Pacific NW convoy at the motel on Wed morning the 14th, but we will need to leave by 8:30 a.m. in order to make Ouray in time for our volunteer obligations. The distances are 540 miles on the 13th and 375 miles on the 14th, for a total of 915 miles. We plan to travel at 65-70 MPH in consideration of low geared and/or large tire FSJs. For the return trip, most of us in the convoy are staying an extra week and doing some sightseeing and camping in the SW Colorado and Southern UT. area. We have a schedule which may include Moab, Mesa Verde NP, Monument Valley, Natural Bridges NM, Bryce Canyon NP, Great Basin NP and others. Our plan is to try to incorporate some back country scenic byway travel whenever possible too. Our return route across Nevada will be via U.S. Hwy. 50 with everyone doing the scenic return with us arriving home again on Sat., Aug. 24. In the Central-Western group: Michael Baxter, Michel B., Frank A. from Norway, SuperKen W., Phil S., Brian B., Mike H. and Ikang D. and Nelson D. both from Provo, UT. Plus significant others whose names I don't remember. Tentative are Robert (Mac) M., Bert G. and Neil D.

I will be leaving Austin, thru Fort Worth to Amarillo, to Raton, NM, then north to Walsenburg, CO on I-25, west to South Fork on US160, then 149 from South Fork, CO, and cutting over via the Alpine Loop trail from Lake City, CO to Ouray, depending on advice and review of detailed maps. If anyone else is interested in this different approach to making getting there half the fun.
