Background

In 1962 a momentous occasion forever changed the automotive industry when the Kaiser Jeep Corporation introduced the Jeep Wagoneer and J-series pickups that survived in one form or another until 1991. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this landmark in automotive history, Full Size Jeep enthusiasts will gather in a place Jeeps were made for: the "Jeep Capital of the World," Ouray, Colorado. J-trucks, Wagoneers, Cherokees, and Grand Wagoneers from all over North America will descend upon Ouray and Silverton in a massive "invasion," Don't be surprised to see people from across the ocean as well!

The Events

We are planning a variety of organized activities for this celebration to provide something of interest to every Full Size Jeep owner. Organized trail runs are planned for each each day. On Animas Forks Friday, we will meet in Animas Forks and have a bring-your-own-grub picnic and contests like best looking rig, tallest truck, RTI ramp, and so on. On Full Size Saturday, we are planning a huge BBQ dinner party with raffle. Many additional attractions such as shopping and hot springs await you in the San Juan Mountains.

The Trails

Most of the trails in the San Juan Mountains range between easy and moderate. Only a few are difficult enough to require modified vehicles. The vast majority of trails in the area are fun, scenic, relatively safe, and can be negotiated by stock FSJs. We plan to run some of these trails in organized groups which will increase the fun and safety of the experience for everyone. If you decide to drive the most dangerous trail, Black Bear Pass, good luck and please be careful of the tight switchbacks and steep cliffs!

The Website

This website contains information you will need to plan your trip to the San Juans for the 2002 Invasion or for any of the Reconnaisance Missions planned prior to the Invasion. To help you and your family be safe and well-prepared, read the information in the Prepare section and do some research and reading on your own.
